Hey there, I’m Jess!

To summon a Polly’s Press piece, you’ll need:

  • Two hairs from a black cat

  • Spilled madder root dye

  • An affinity for flora and fauna

  • A stack of vintage textiles

  • One cup of bitter coffee, black

  • A gentle hand inclined to wander

  • The essence of your grandmother crocheting on Sunday morning

Stir together on a delicate porcelain dish, then pour at the root of your nearest house plant. By the next half-moon, a work will have begun to sprout. Water it with well-wishes twice a day to ensure proper growth.

Polly’s Press is named after Jess’ grandmother & closest confidant, Polly Ann Carter. Jess’ pattern-driven illustrations, block prints & naturally dyed work reflect her background in textile design. She received her BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design in Fibers & worked as a wallpaper & textile designer in New England. She currently lives & works from her studio in Richmond, Virginia.
